Yes. The tracer doses used are very small and leave the body naturally within hours to days. Radiation exposure is comparable to routine imaging and is administered under strict radiation-safety protocols by trained nuclear medicine personnel. Tell our team if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as special precautions apply.
You will typically need to fast for 4–6 hours before the scan (water is allowed) and avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Diabetic patients receive specific instructions about medication timing. After the tracer injection, you rest quietly for about an hour before imaging. The whole visit usually takes 2–3 hours.
Radioiodine therapy uses radioactive iodine to treat overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) and certain thyroid cancers. The thyroid absorbs the iodine, which destroys the targeted cells with minimal effect on the rest of the body. It is a well-established, non-surgical treatment given as a single capsule or liquid dose.
For most diagnostic scans, you can resume normal contact immediately. After therapeutic doses like radioiodine, our team will give you simple precautions — such as limiting close contact with young children and pregnant women for a few days. We provide clear written instructions before you go home.
